The Whitewater Rescue Institute is located in Lolo, Montana. While most of our courses are taught throughout the northwest, we teach all over the United States and internationally as well.
Our courses are designed to help keep you safe on the river and in the backcountry. We have teamed up with some of the outdoor industry’s leaders to bring our students the most up-to-date and practical information. We work with Aerie Backcountry Medicine to bring not only Wilderness Medicine courses to our customers, but integrated courses that combine all the elements of swiftwater rescue and patient care. We also work with Montana Technical College to offer our students college credit for our swiftwater rescue. And we have partnered with the Outdoor Safety Institute to offer comprehensive risk management plans and consulting.
All of our instructors are leaders in the outdoors and have years of experience keeping groups safe. They can draw on this real world experience to provide students with practical and useful skills in rescue.
We pride ourselves on offering our students scenario based training. We know that watching videos, listening to lectures and taking notes has its place in education, but we believe, to truly understand the dynamics involved in rescue, you need experience. Our scenarios allow students to gain this. So that when they respond, they feel prepared.
We love the river. We love the outdoors. And we know that safety is the key to enjoying them.
