Mike Johnston began his career in Swiftwater Rescue in 1986 while serving as a patrol and backcountry ranger for the National Park Service in Yellowstone. With decades of experience in outdoor leadership and emergency response, he has played a pivotal role in shaping scenario-based rescue training.
Mike’s extensive background includes Search and Rescue operations in Glacier, Acadia, and Yellowstone National Parks, as well as roles as a professional ski patroller, Outdoor Emergency Care Instructor for the National Ski Patrol, and wilderness guide. His dedication to river safety and instruction led him to establish Montana River Guides in 1994, where he continues to mentor and train rescue professionals.
