Our instructors travel throughout the Americas teaching swift water rescue. Oddly enough, the Blackfoot River remains our favorite place to teach swift water rescue. Blackfoot River rafting is hard to beat and Missoula whitewater raft trips on the Blackfoot are at their best in late spring and early summer on. We love the Blackfoot for many reasons, primarily because it is a beautiful mountain river that holds so many memories and shared experiences for our families, friends and local community. It is a perfect mountain river that creates supports and sustains life along it’s corridor and beyond. It also sustains WRI and our work as an ideal river to train on. The Blackfoot’s spring flows provide a combination of powerful swift water along with many features for our students to practice self rescue and rescuing others.
Returning to teach on the same rivers year after year increases our lead instructor’s ability to teach better and better swift water rescue classes. Knowing what locations provide access and ideal training conditions at a variety of flows allows us to consistantly provide the best swift water rescue training available anywhere .
“As the Water Rescue Team Leader for Missoula County Search and Rescue, WRI has been not only a great training resource but also a great partner on several of our swiftwater rescue and recoveries. Cody, Mike and WRI’s very capable and knowledgeable team of instructors teach from the perspective of having experienced the very missions that we are tasked with completing.”
